Looker Studio guide

How to get Shopify and ads data into Looker Studio

Looker Studio reads data from Google Sheets or BigQuery, so the way to get Shopify or ads data into it is to sync that data to one of them first. Connect your source to SyncRange, export to a Google Sheet or BigQuery dataset on a schedule, then add that sheet or dataset in Looker Studio as a data source. How it works

  1. 1

Sync your data to Sheets or BigQuery

Connect Shopify, Meta, Google Ads or any other source with OAuth, then export to a Google Sheet or a BigQuery dataset on a schedule.

  2. 2

Add the data source in Looker Studio

In Looker Studio, click Add data and choose Google Sheets or BigQuery from the list. Both are built in, so there is nothing to install.

  3. 3

    Build your dashboard

Add charts, tables and filters. For several sources, export them to one sheet (separate tabs) or one dataset, add each as a data source and blend them in Looker Studio.

FAQ

How do I connect Shopify or ads data to Looker Studio?

Looker Studio reads Google Sheets and BigQuery natively, so sync your data to one of them first. Connect the source to SyncRange, export to a Google Sheet or BigQuery dataset on a schedule, then in Looker Studio click Add data, choose Google Sheets or BigQuery, and select the sheet or the project, dataset and table SyncRange populated.

Do I need to install anything in Looker Studio?

No. Google Sheets and BigQuery are built-in Looker Studio data sources. You authenticate with your Google account and select your sheet or dataset.

Should I use Google Sheets or BigQuery as the source for Looker Studio?

Both work. Google Sheets is best for smaller datasets and ad-hoc reporting, is easy to share, and lets you edit data or add formulas before visualizing it. BigQuery is best for large datasets and data warehousing, with SQL queries and joins.

How fresh is the data in my dashboard?

SyncRange updates the sheet or tables on your export schedule, not in real time from the source platforms. Looker Studio caches sheet data, and you can set the cache expiration in the data source properties. BigQuery data is queried when the report is loaded.

Can I combine several sources in one dashboard?

Yes. Export several sources to the same Google Sheet (different tabs) or the same BigQuery dataset, add each as a data source in Looker Studio, and use Looker Studio's blend feature to combine them.

Are there ready-made Looker Studio templates?

Yes. SyncRange has Looker Studio dashboard templates for SEO, Facebook (Meta) Ads, and a GA4 and Search Console marketing report. You can start free, with a free plan and no credit card required.
